Reliefs

This time Blanka Matragi, following the example of František Kupka, captured the flowing chiffon skirts in a state of weightlessness in her richly coloured reliefs. These were created using the technique of fused glass, where first a plastic motif (in this case a dress) is created from ceramic clay, from which a plaster mould is cast and then a glass sheet with an original painting is melted in a glass furnace. The authorship of the resulting work thus lies not only in the painting of the glass, but also in its unique shaping. The final form of the relief, however, is only obtained after the surface is sandblasted and sanded.
